Sol Barbados Limited and the Rotary Club of Barbados West joined forces to donate a special gift to the Barbados Red Cross Society’s Meals on Wheels Programme yesterday morning. Barbados Red Cross Director General, Edmond Bradshaw, expressed his sincere gratitude to these two entities during the unveiling of the brand new Vulcan stove, at their headquarters.

“It is good for our nation when we have corporate entities like Sol Barbados Limited and humanitarian bodies like the Rotary Club of Barbados West, who recognise the importance of caring for those most vulnerable in our communities,” he said.

He said that it is paramount to recognise the hard work that these two entities put in to providing them with the stove to help with their daily output of meals.

He revealed that Meals on Wheels is one of their longest running programmes, catering to the poor, elderly, incapacitated and those who live on their own, by providing daily meals to them.

President of Rotary Club of Barbados West, Kevin Watson, praised the terrific service that the Barbados Red Cross Society has delivered over the years to those who are unable to provide meals for themselves. He highlighted that they are intimately involved with their productions due to the fact that their members volunteered with the programme twice a week.

“So when it came to our attention that their cooking facility was in poor shape and they were struggling to get out the number of meals that were required, we made a decision and with the help of Ezra, from Sol, we were able to purchase a new stove so that they could continue to carry out their mandate,” he said.

General Manager of Sol Barbados Limited, Ezra Prescod, revealed that Sol also made a generous donation of gas in order to help keep the stove running.“We are very honoured to be here to make this donation because after seeing the reality of what people in Barbados are facing, one could not stand by idly,” he said.
